In Elly Sienkiuewicz's Beloved Baltimore Album Quilts we find 25 blocks, 12 quilts for inspiration and numerous embellishment techniques. Album quilts are perhaps the most glorious of all applique quilts. The blocks are often done by many different stitchers and contain symbols that are representative of our culture, both past and present. All the patterns in the book are from the Happiness is in the Journey quilt, one of the quilts from the Houston Special Exhibit. They are sized at 8x8 finished. There is an enlargement chart for those of you who would like to work in a larger size format. You will find wonderful photos and illustrations for various applique techniques from beginning basics to such techniques as weaving fabric for baskets and creating dimensional flowers. Art materials covered include: threads, fabric manipulation, beads and acrylic paints and inks. I also liked the instruction on creating a dog tooth border. The quilts at the 2010 Houston Special Exhibit started from a grain of an idea Elly had in the middle of the night. Over the course of 3 years (2007-2010), 245 volunteers from 36 states and 5 countries created 12 Baltimore Album quilts. The twelve quilts plus an additional 28 quilts from around the world made up the 2010 Houston Special Exhibit. The block makers names are listed along with a map of the quilt to help the reader locate the specific block in the photo of the quilt. I am sure there are names you will recognize. Where do I even start? This book is wonderful just to look at. The quilts, blocks, and fabrics, just beautiful! It is so comprehensive. The wealth of knowledge Elly has compiled into this 127 page book is unbelievable. There are so many great techniques including painting techniques, embroidery, silhouette portraits, stencil shading, beading, calligraphy, and on. OMG!There are 25 block patterns to make a 68"X68" gorgeous quilt called "Happiness Is in the Journey". Each block pattern includes the Symbolism of the block and Pattern Notes that include page numbers to needed techniques earlier in the book.This book is a treasure. Elly's knowledge of everything Baltimore Album is immense and we are very fortunate to have her in Quilt World.

After looking at the blocks and quilts featured in this book, I decided that the Baltimore style is generally too ornate for my taste. However, the book includes lots of great tips for creating fine hand applique, including how to deal with trouble spots like sharp inside corners. There is an entire chapter with many interesting embellishments. So I will use the information in this book on the quilt I decided to make even though it won't be a Baltimore. I also enjoyed the history and seeing how the blocks made by so many different hands came together into lovely, cohesive quilts.

This book is amazing. I have been looking for a book on Baltimore blocks for years. This one not only contains an excellent variety of blocks but also very good directions on how to do the more intricate bits of stitching and turning. Not for the beginner but for someone who has done at least some appliquÃ© stitching. Reading the book and looking at some of the amazing examples it really gives you inspiration to take flight and make each block how you want it to look, not how someone else dictates. Highly recommend and worth every cent!

These applique designs are absolutely gorgeous. The instructions are well written and easy to understand. I am starting my first Baltimore Album quilt with them.

I wanted a more basic book. Many of the patterns in this one have techniques that are more advanced, and while they are well explained and I could do them, I was more interested in less "exotic" applique. The rating is more about my wants than the quality of the book, which is very good.

The designs are great and the instructions are very clear. Simple techniques are given to transfer the patterns to cloth to begin each block. It takes the quilter step by step to create a beautiful block and if you wish a quilt of these.

Beaultful colored photos of quilts. This book gives you the basics of appliquie then goes on to show the art and embellishments that made this quilts so beautiful. Along with the many classic patterns the author also tells the history and the symbolism that made these quilts so unique. Another great book by Elly Sienkiewicz.

Easy to follow directions and photos for all levels. Beautiful photos of many Baltimore Album quilts.

I bought this because I thought it would provide some fun activities to go along with our Story of the World curriculum. I wanted to give the History Pocket series a chance so I would know in the future what, if anything, we would be missing (homeschool FOMO if you will). I usually like Evan Moor products as supplements to our main curriculums or for vacation/morning work. While the information is good, the activities seem a bit on the busy-work side and require pretty low level thinking. Alot of coloring and cutting, crafty-type projects. If you are using a solid history curriculum such as Story of the World, narration, discussions, Waldorf/CM type map work and a few additional readings, activities and field trips will suffice. No need for this type of busy work - in my opinion, it makes learning inefficient and shallow.

I see Iâ€™m in the minority when I say I hate this book! Loathe it. Every time I get it out for lessons it makes me ragey so today I ditched it. Itâ€™s busywork with very little educational value. We learn more from reading and studying maps and watching documentaries. I think what made it most frustrating is that you have to constantly reference other pages to know what to do, and to copy it I had to take the pages out so I have clumps of paper clipped pages falling out every which way. Bravo Zulu to you if you have the patience and attention span to implement this in your homeschool or classroom. It was an epic fail for us.

To supplement our history lessons, I included History Pockets: Ancient Civilizations, Grades 1-3 as part of our social studies lessons. The activity book covers history, Ancient Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Ancient China, and the Ancient Aztec World. Each section contains a reproducible pocket label, four picture dictionary words, a fact sheet of background information for the teacher, a reproducible student information booklet complete with illustrations, a postcard of a famous monument, two puppets to show the clothing, arts and crafts projects, and writing activities. My daughter and I completed each section over one or two days with a culminating portfolio to show her study of ancient civilizations.

Sure, you could probably dig through Pintrest for most of these sorts of activities, but I think the convenience of the book makes the price wholly reasonable. As secular homeschoolers following Well Trained mind, I decided to just use the encyclopedias and other books to teach ancient history for 1st grade. Mostly, we were reading whatever caught his fancy at bedtime from the encyclopedias. I was noticing that there wasnt much order and I thought adding these simple hands on bits would tie together all that we have talked about this year. As a first grader, I am reading and pointing out the definitions for my son. He seems to really enjoy 20 or 30 minutes of this light work to break up the harder work of reading lessons and math lessons. Its a bit annoying for a homeschool mom of 1 that the whole book is printed duplex which necessitated a trip to the library to make copies of the pages I needed to have a blank back but it wasnt a deal breaker. For these early years, history is about exposure and exploration. This material helps do that. We also added little things like trying to write cuniform in Plah Doh, building a ziggarat out of Magformers, and a few videos from YouTube. Along with the pride of making his very own history book, my son seems to.recall the concepts better for later after doing these activities. He has ADHD, so the multi sensory activities really help. He can color while I read. He is especially proud of the puppets!! If youre too busy to build all the multisensory options from scartch or dont want to cobble them together from Pinterest, you will probably enjoy this workbook. Just know youre going to need to make some copies.

I used these pockets to support the Ancient year my family enjoyed as an annual theme in their earlier home education. The theme took in every kind of learning, and these added something special, but I mainly relied on Story of the World, Volume 1: Ancient Times Audiobook CD: From the Earliest Nomads to the Late Roman Empire, Revised Edition (7 CDs). Fortunately they fit beautifully together. The Story of the World title gives a lot more information than the pockets, including stories from each culture, and if you get the Audio CD version, your children can play the tracks to their hearts' content. The matching Story of the World activity book was also a great help to create some active/hands-on/role play learning. These three titles together work really well but don't supply any of the science, so to flesh it out I used Ancient Science: 40 Time-Traveling, World-Exploring, History-Making Activities for Kids, which is also arranged civilization by civilization, so the experiments are super easy to fit in at the right point. The set of science experiments are couched in historical background, are well explained from both the scientific point of view and from the point of view of what each civilization discovered, and most importantly they really work!So the pockets by themselves are not going to teach the history, but my children LOVED the pocket activities which had them make things that they can handle, that will remind them of what we covered in other ways. I'd also like to recommend Ancient World (World History Series) for your independent readers. It is also arranged by different major civilizations, but adds in some other peoples, e.g. The Celts, and includes spreads on key figures, like Alexander the Great. My 8yo and I both fell in love with this book. My daughter asked me to buy it for her as her very own copy, and she can remember tonnes of the details because the book is so inspiring.Using these five titles together has created the best learning experience we've ever had in our home educating. Oh - I also read some ancient stories (folklore and fairy tales would fit here) as evening read-alouds before bedtime.And the next year was Medieval Year, using the same approach. That was our second best year.

But ok, who isn't complicated? It was a thoroughly researched work about a time and place I remember fondly; my college years at NYU when Chris Durang, Andre and Wendy were the stars of the New York theater world. I never knew her and it was fascinating to find out about a person who at times I adored and at times I found cold and manipulative - as I am sure she herself was manipulated. We want to think of idols as perfect. This is not that kind of book. It's an honest look behind the curtain and for that it deserves a read. That is not to say it shines an unflattering light on her - it merely tells the truth about what it was like to be her, as much as a book can.My one issue is the title - a reference to Peter Pan that, while seemingly clever, was not worth misleading the reader and does no justice to its subject. This book is about Wendy and her life and yes there are men in it, and women and children who all play important roles. It seems strange to me to give short shrift to the whole of her by titling it something indicating an ensemble piece. It is not. It is simply the uncommon life of Wendy Wasserstein. I hope she knew what it was like to be truly loved and more important what it was like to truly and selflessly love back.

Wendy Wasserstein and Julie Salamon are a match made in bio heaven. I loved this book for its knowing grasp of how Wendy Wasserstein, her work and her life, became a mirror for so many boomer concerns--especially for we women of a certain age who found ourselves caught between the demands of our families and our personal ambitions and struggled mightily to define ourselves. I loved it for showing exactly how an artist's life, good and bad, creates her. You needn't be a fan of WW's work to appreciate how that life--her crazy family, her vulnerability about her appearance, her pleasures in and doubts about her innate talent, her capacity for and need of complicated friendships as a replacement for family, the secrets she kept, the steely ambition beneath the girlish giggle--informed her work. I loved Salamon's insight into Wendy's fierce love for and competition with her powerful brother Bruce. As a transplanted New Yorker and a (Jewish, female) writer myself, I loved the gossip element of this book--the glimpses of all those boldfaced names that peopled Wendy's world during these tumultuous decades. I loved the way Salamon gives us a close-up view of how artists who happen to come up through the ranks at a particular moment in time (Ivy League, East Coast division in this case) create and define a cultural moment. Any woman who has wished her gay best friend could also be her mate will identify with Wendy's difficulties finding a life partner. Salamon's account of WW's desire for a child, accomplished in a third act cut way too short, is particularly moving. I didn't know Wendy Wasserstein though I might have, brushing up as I did against the worlds she walked through. But I hated finishing this book. I felt as if I'd lost a friend. Bravo.

Julie Salamon's new biography of Wendy Wasserstein is a critical look at both Wasserstein's life and work. It is very well-written - as all books by Salamon are - but the woman who emerges on Salamon's pages still seems like an enigma. I'm not sure I "knew" Wendy Wasserstein any better after reading the book than before I read it. And that's not Salamon's fault; I think Wendy Wasserstein was so many things - each different to every person in her life - that I'm not sure there was full person there. That's not a criticism of Wasserstein, either, but rather a frank appraisal of the family she came from and the world she functioned in. Sometimes, she seemed to me to "observe" society through her writing rather than participating in it.Born into an upwardly mobile Jewish family, Wendy was surrounded by the secrets many families hold. "Polite people" didn't discuss the fractures that death and divorce and mental illness often bring to a family. There were many secrets in her family, most she didn't know til she reached adulthood. Hers was a family where the children excelled in both school and business. Her brother Bruce and her sister Sandra were both business successes, while Wendy - the youngest - found herself adrift in the 1960's college life at Mt Holyoke and the years after. She was the "creative" Wasserstein, and, in her own way, found herself as famous as brother Bruce. She wrote timely plays about the women in her world, both at a macro-level about the women of her generation and at a micro-level about the women in her immediate family.But if Wendy Wasserstein found respect and friendship through her writing, she also seemed not to have a lot of personal self-confidence. She went to live with her uncle Bruce and his family, but Bruce died a few years later.Julie Salamon's writing is excellent. Two of her best books are "Net of Dreams", a book about her parents' experiences during the Holocaust and eventual settling in the United States and "The Devil's Candy", flat-out the best book about movie making I've ever read. I wish I liked this book a little better; I'd have given it five stars instead of four.

This is a carefully sculpted and lucid biography of Martin Luther poised against the background the printing press and books in Germany circa 1500. Luther, a bright intellectual and young Augustinian monk posted his thesis against indulgences and their abuse on the cathedral door at Wittenberg. It helped to churn an already current of criticism toward Rome, tapped into the rise of political power by the Princes in Germany and eventually unleashed a schism of doctrinal divisiveness that became known as the Protestant Reformation. Luther was a master of media manipulation through the printing press with the knowledge that the â€œoxygen of publicity was a matter of life and death.â€ He also paid attention to the education of girls, raising the level of literacy where his church took hold. His use of German rather than Latin reached out to the ordinary people of the land. Throughout the book there are illustrations of the fine woodcuts that helped popularize his writings. Luther read the political scene very well and was skilled at energizing market forces in his behalf. As one who participates in ecumenical dialogue, I found the book very helpful in gaining a clearer picture of Luther with human qualities rather than a rigid dogmatic figure of History. Pettegreeâ€™s book is a timely publication for the 500-year Commemoration of the Reformation in 2017.

British author Andrew Pettegree has done just this with his book about Martin Luther, "Brand Luther", where he examines Luther's influence on both religion and in the book publishing business. Not the most common combination but one splendidly presented in Pettegree's book.Martin Luther was a monk-on-the-rise at the eastern Germany city of Wittenberg. Becoming well-known for pushing against the Catholic Church's selling of clerical indulgences to lessen one's time in purgatory, Luther was also a prolific writer. He wrote about religious matters in both Latin and the vernacular, German. In 1517 he posted his 95 Thesis on the door of the main church in Wittenberg and from there, questions began to be asked. Pettegree examines Luther's gathering influence on the Church and politics. He shows Luther's good points and his bad one's, too. Pettegree doesn't try to whitewash Luther's anti-Semitism.Pettegree brings the religion and the business and the political together in his book. He's a very good writer and the book is very good for those readers interested in the Reformation.

Interesting twist on Luther and Reformation history. This book really focuses on the relationship between Luther, the printers in Germany, and the Reformation. How without the presses Luther wouldn't have gotten famous and the Reformation would have just been some blip on the radar not a movement. But without Luther the presses wouldn't have had much to do. Really interesting exploration of the confluence of events that changed the world forever.

Third read going on. Well done and easy for non-academics to understand. A lot of historical points that have been missed by other studies of this man and his impact on history. It is serving as a study for a group of men from various religious backgrounds and has stimulated a lot of discussion, much of it relative to things happening today.

This creative contribution to Reformation studies offers a unique insight into the effect of Martin Luther's work on the fledgling printing and publishing industry in Germany, something that eventually made Wittenberg the actual center of the Reformation. Other figures that featured prominently in the proliferation of print and its consequences, in addition to Luther's influence, are the artist Lucas Cranach, the humanist Erasmus, the theologian Melanchthon, the publisher Lotter, and several others who surrounded Luther both in support and in opposition. Pettegree has given us a well-written, well-researched addition to the voluminous material now appearing for the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.

This book offers a look into an aspect of the Reformation that is not very well known: the impact Luther had on the printing and book publishing business. While there are occasional errors in historical details, the book is well written, lively, fascinating and well worth the time to learn more about Luther, not only a Reformer of the Church, but a revolutionary in the realm of publishing. Every home needs a good Baptist (or other denominational) hymnal. All the hymns we learned growing up are there. Sometimes I open mine randomly and just start to play on our piano whatever hymn comes up. Then I do it again. And again...

This brings back so many memories and is a great addition to my daily devotions.

This book was in excellent shape and brought back a lot of memories from my youth. Why churches these days don't use hymnals nor sing these beautiful hymns anymore is beyond me. I for one would like to see them come back.

While it showed fast via UPS, this used hymnal is missing the first 17 songs.Completely ripped out!!! Very disappointed!

The Baptist Hymnal is an impressive collection of top-tier hymns. Comparing the Baptist Hymnal to a 1969 hymnal: Hymns of Glorious Praise, reveals that the Baptist Hymnal doesn't cover many of the Hymns popular in the south as Hymns of Glorious Praise does (I know that because checking many of the hymns included in Hymns of Glorious Praise on the Mp3 soundclips on Amazon.com shows that many southern artist/choirs have recorded a significant proportion of the hymns in that hymnal). The Baptist Hymnal still is very impressive, nonetheless.

I used to read Garfield religiously as a kid, and largely (pun intended) owe my sense of humor to this strip. While it will never, and SHOULD never be mentioned in the same breath as Calvin and Hobbes, Peanuts, or Far Side, it is nonetheless one of the great American cartoon strips... in it's early years.While Garfield hasn't hit it's stride in this volume, you can see that it was populated by characters that are very different from it's later insipid and shallow versions of the characters. Here you'll see the John with an acerbic wit that will turn sharper in later years. Odie is introduced as an empty headed but occasionally devious rival for John's affection. Liz shooting down John with caustic burns. Linus as a dim-witted but affable friend. John's crazy family.... all genuinely funny stuff. You also see Jim Davis slowly morphing into a truly talented artist.Pick this up to find out how Garfield ever became famous in the first place. The first ten or so of these volumes will also be worth reading. Just be ready to jump ship while the strip is still good. And for Gods sake don't bother with anything that's been printed the last 20 years or so...

This book is wonderful. Iâ€™ve been waiting literally decades for a dedicated hardcover collection of complete Garfield strips, and this delivers. The additional details by Jim Davis are a lovely insight into the world of Garfield and his creation.Itâ€™s a little bit of a shame that not every strip is presented in color, but the overall presentation more than makes up for it. Iâ€™ll be collecting every one of these volumes if only to have a complete reference library of comics that helped shape my childhood and make me the person I am today.

Love Garfield so this was an awesome way to know what I was getting ( in a very timely fashion) and no hassle of having to go from book store to book store or waiting forever at the local comic shop and it possibly not showing. Highly enjoyable experience all the way around.

The images on the box are not representative of what is on the cards. The images on the cards are difficult to understand and are not realistic. Its the same art style but the cards don't just show kids in yoga poses. For example, the airplane card shows a kid flying in the sky instead of doing the pose on the ground. This did not work for our purposes and they were returned. They come wrapped in plastic, so you have to pay a $5 restocking fee just to look at them.

I have an "emotionally reactive" high energy daughter who sometimes need a little help calming down and finding focus.We chose these cards because they are used at her school (A Montessori Preschool), so I knew she would be familiar with them. They are high quality and she loves the posses! She spends lots of time on her yoga mat choosing cards and trying new positions.We even sent these with her to summer camp when she was having a hard time adjusting, so that she could go to the coat closet and use them... worked like a charm! If gave her a safe place to get away and have a focused self-directed activity!Kids who are "wild" don't need punishment, they need a chance to learn how to focus their energy... I really wish my parents/teachers had given me this kind of tool when I was growing up as a hyperactive child!

I bought these after reading the reviews on several different yoga products as well as the book that goes with this. I haven't seen the book but chose the cards because of other reviewers preferring the cards over the books.My son is 4 and has Tourette's Syndrome, OCD, ADHD, and anxiety. His neurologist's standardized handout suggested yoga so I decided to give it a shot, and it's been the single most helpful thing we've tried so far besides what we learned from Freeing Your Child From OCD. He loves picking out 10 cards every night and I arrange them in some sort of logical order (usually progressing from standing to sitting...I have no yoga experience so this is just something I'm figuring out as we use them). We just do them on the living room rug (since we don't own yoga mats) and wearing our normal clothes. I think the kid orientation is really freeing for my husband and I to not worry about wearing the right clothes or going to the right place to do yoga...we just do it. For my son, it is very calming and focusing. I will not say he miraculously becomes a sedentary angel, but he does have an easier time sleeping or sitting at the table for supper.My husband and I have also benefited from the yoga. He had a horseback riding accident and I had an artery dissection in my neck so both of us live with some chronic pain. We have never let it slow us down and I don't think the kids even know because we're still really active and don't talk about it. But the yoga has definitely improved our symptoms as well. We're less stiff, more limber, and bounce back faster after activities that may flair our symptoms. So I'd definitely recommend this as a family activity!My 18 month old daughter likes to do this with us, too. She doesn't stay through the whole session but she observes, comes and goes, tries out a pose we're doing, and moves on.I like that the box opens from the top so it's easy to get the cards in and out. The cards are very sturdy and have held up well to my rambunctious kids. I like the illustrations...pleasant and well done.

I didn't look at the size before I ordered them but I was nicely surprised. They come in a sturdy box with a completely removable lid. The cards themselves are about as sturdy as playing cards. They measure 4X6 inches. Each card has a color picture, an upper- and lower-case letter and the name of the pose on the front. The back has a poem describing how to do the pose. Most letters have more than one card/pose. Some poses mirror adult yoga poses, others are a bit different. The only thing I didn't like about this set is that the cards can be difficult to get back in the box. Overall, pleased with the purchase.

I use these cards with my first grade students during indoor recess or when they need a break during the day. The cards are larger than I thought (similar to typical flashcard size) and very sturdy. They each have a picture of the yoga pose on one side and a short poem describing how to complete the pose. My kids really like them and are learning to complete the poses without reading the directions. I am not a yoga expert by any means, but the cards made it very easy for all of us to understand the poses. Excellent resource if you are looking for something easy and simple to help kids develop an interest in yoga.

I got these cards to do yoga with my kids (7 and 3). I have them choose a set of cards and I put them together in a sequence that flows and we create our own little class. There is a large variety of poses in this set. We haven't done all the poses yet after a couple of weeks of using the deck. Each card has a cute picture of the pose and a poem on how to do the pose. The cards are sturdy and have withstood my 3 year old's constant handling - she loves putting the cards away for us as we finish each pose. These cards are smaller than Yoga Pretzels' cards, but work fine. We have had great fun with this product.

I bought these cards to use with my children at home. Unlike some other reviewers, I actually love the imaginative illustrations. I think they are so beautiful and really help us imagine what weâ€™re doing with each pose. I also love the rhymes and the overal concept. But to my immense disappointment I see that these poses all have alternative, presumably kid-friendly names! A very few are kept, such as â€œwarrior.â€ But most these poses have names like â€œragdollâ€ and â€œaeroplane.â€ I wanted to teach my children (and myself) accurate yoga vocabularyâ€”a big undertaking in itself and one that will serve us all well throughout our lives. But unfortunately, these cards will be of no use for that. I am undecided about whether to keep them or not, in spite of everything I love about them.

How to put this? I'm glad I read the book and I see the potential for the series. However, I was surprised to find I had issues with several components, something I've never experienced with this author before. I agree with another reviewer who mentioned the very standard set up though at least Eden wasn't trying to get over someone in addition to the rest of it. It's not the usual from this author, a clever and creative writer. The supporting characters are a mystery: I'm not sure what the author wants us to feel about them. Are we to find them bad yet lovable because their hearts are in the right place so to speak? Or, as in the case of the grandmother, are they just unlikable and there as a foil for Eden and, perhaps, comic relief? Either the author hasn't decided yet or she's trying to make them be all things and it isn't working. I do see they could be a fantastic cast of characters once the author settles on some things. Next: although It's made clear that humans are not to be privy to the paranormal world, it seems as if a great many humans are in on things and more should be asking questions based upon how often paranormals allude to non human things. I get the part that empaths and seers are humans with abilities which allows them in on the paranormal "secret" but it feels like there are too many of those (perhaps a device to make writing easier?) and, at any rate, the whole separate or not idea needs to be clearer, tightened up and adhered to. Doesn't mean it can't be fun or funny, just clear.The murders and mystery were interesting as was the solving of them and I absolutely LOVED her intro to the romantic interest. Though I found it unbelievable that she didn't realize immediately that her inebriated state wasn't due solely to her drinking. I read the author's description of the series before anything was was published and what she described sounded like an interesting combination of characters and stories. After reading the book I realize that what sounded like fun is also challenging to bring to life. Not only is Ms Chase up to the challenge, she'll master it and that makes this book, (good, not great) a must read as the beginning of the series.

This author can't write anything bad, in my opinion. And this book is no exception. I can't wait for the next one! If you are looking for family drama, a funny and well-written paranormal cozy - this is it. Annabel Chase writes books that are some of the best in these categories with characters that are well-rounded and real. You just want to know them better.

Fun and funny, Ms Chase makes balancing world building and character work with an admittedly light plot. If you're a fan of Me Chase or just enjoy well crafted light supernatural mysteries, but this book. I can't imagine anyone disappointed who chooses to read this book...

What a great start to a new series. I feel in love with the characters from the beginning; especially the grandmother and her snarky comments, got to love her! Already pre-ordered the next book, keep them coming !

What a great start. Not only demons, witches, druids, vampires and a half fury (and that's just her family) but a great read with some chuckles, some sarcasm and murders. A great look at the supernatural world that is zany, quirky and action packed but also has a core of romance running through it. Loved the characters, from her determination not to become a full fury to her niece's sarcastic put downs (and she's still a child).Her taking on vampire characteristics has meant that she's been assigned to FBM (from the regular FBI) and a job in her home town. Taking over from a former colleague that died by bee. Now she's back home trying to deal with her mixed up family (who can't wait for her to get more evil) her former nemesis, her old ex, murders and a handsome new Chief. What is the reason why people are dying and dying by their worst fears? Can she stop the killer without turning more into a fury or letting the human residents see the supernatural side of life?

Poorly balanced book with some potential. Would have given a two and one half if I could. Standard set up with Eden returning to her home town after her powers as a fury appear during her last case as a FBI agent. We have the usual magical family of misfits with a series of murders. We also have standard hunky love interest. There are at least three series currently running with similar plots. This one has some interesting characters, but is almost like two books. The first half revolves around the family and the new chief of police who is the love interest. Then that is essentially dropped as we rush to solve the murder case. Early characters basically vanish and only reappear at the end. Poorly plotted and the reveal of the murder is out of the blue. Needs an edit and a rewrite badly. Character of Eden has some potential.
