About the Author

Since 1973, Rick Steves has spent about four months a year exploring Europe. His mission: to empower Americans to have European trips that are fun, affordable, and culturally broadening. The content is excellent--but the one time I referred to it for dining options, I only found 3 in the city I was visiting. Since I was on a group tour, the recommendations of our tour director and locals was more than sufficient for THAT.The background information is excellent, truly solid--I think this book would be IDEAL for someone traveling solo or planning a trip for a group of friends.

You can't go wrong with a book by Rick Steves. He has done so much of the research for you it make it easy to travel! I love his way of encouraging you to travel and "live with the locals" so you get the best out of your experience. Great guidebook that covers a lot of places. It also helps if you love to travel to England, like I do!

We visited a few stops on our cruise of the British Isles in May but we plan a land tour next year. We are using the book to plan places to visit, best time to visit, costs of lodging and food and transportation. . Of course costs will be higher but it gives a general idea.

Like all of Rick's travel books he shares small things that can make a trip so much better! He helps in avoiding pit falls and saves us money on our trips. His help to prepare you for the culture of country you are exploring!I have enjoyed his PBS show for years.

Rick Steve's books are always the best. They give you a plan based on how long you have at a location - just as if you had a knowledgeable friend along with you pointing out what you should do next to see as much as possible in your limited time.
