This is the third in this series and I agree with another reviewer that the lead character, Tricia, needs a vacation. She seems to be upset and angry or irritated with almost everyone else in the story. I should have a pretty good picture of Tricia by now, but I don't. I don't even have a good physical picture of her. On the positive side, the mystery itself was interesting. To be honest, it's the setting of Booktown and some of the other characters that keep me reading this series. I wish the author would have fleshed out Tricia in the first book of the series; giving us her background and physical appearance at the start. I also wish I liked Tricia more, but I can't...yet. She seems to be very inconsistent and sometimes outright rude. Maybe after a vacation she will mellow out and be more friendly.

Sometimes old classmates and roommates can be murder, literally. Tricia Miles, one of the book owners in Stoneham, allows old college friend Pammy to stay with her. It was originally supposed to be for a night or two but turns into weeks. Finally after Pammy takes advantage of Tricia one too many times, Tricia kicks her out. Then, soon after, Pammy is found dead in a dumpster. Who would want to kill Pammy who is a stranger to Stoneham? As Tricia looks into the murder of her friend, she discovers there is a group of people in the area who scavenge for food. Was Pammy part of this group? Did this group have anything to do with Pammy's death? As Tricia investigates, she runs head to head with local law enforcement. If you like low key cosy mysteries, you will like this book.

Tricia Miles, owner of the Haven't Got a Clue mystery/suspense bookstore in Stoneham, NH, doesn't consider herself inhospitable, but when her former college roommate shows up to "stay the weekend" and ends up lingering for two weeks, Tricia feels she has no option but to evict her--and does. Unfortunately the process proves fatal for her former guest, who soon turns up dead in a trashcan. Naturally Tricia--a lifelong mystery buff and twice-previously amateur sleuth--can't help but get involved. Is there some connection between the murder and the box of books her unwelcome guest left temporarily in her care? Or does the link lie in the local underground economy, specifically the "freegans"--people who Dumpster-dive for food, and among whose number Tricia is shocked to find her employee Ginny included? While trying to find the answers to these questions, Tricia is also preparing to throw a wedding for her other part-timer, Mr. Everett, and his longtime love, struggling with her relationship with the local newspaperman, and running interference for her sister's employee Frannie, who's clandestinely feeding a little stray cat outside Angelica's back door and trying to get it to trust her enough to be caught and adopted. And then there's the puzzle of who's leaving squashed squashes--or rather Halloween pumpkins--lying on the sidewalks of Stoneham. Just mischievous kids, or something more sinister? Though a bit slow starting out, the third Booktown Mystery soon gets its feet under it and evolves into a sound, intriguing cozy with a large cast of good characters and a nice amount of suspense.

I thoroughly enjoyed the third installment to Lorna Barrett's Booktown Mystery series. I enjoy reading the continuing saga of Stoneham and its residents. Each of the three books can stand alone, but the stories are entwined and sort of continuing. In this book, finding a body in a dumpster gave a whole new meaning to 'taking the trash out'. Tricia Miles, quiet shop keeper, seems to find a body everywhere she goes. Is she the town 'jinx' or not?I do like the characters and I was happy to see Tricia get a little more depth to her character this time around. Her sister Angelica is a hoot and always livens things up whenever she's around. The other re-occuring characters help build a nice comfortable setting. They have become like old friends and I like the way Lorna Barrett brings their stories to light while weaving the mystery around them all.I was quite surprised by the who in this whodunit! Barrett seems to have a knack for keeping me guessing until the very end and then I sit there and wonder what I missed that I didn't see it coming.Bravo Lorna, you did it again and I can't wait for the next installment to come out. Your 'preview' has already sucked me in and I'll be pre-ordering that book as soon as I can.

This was easily my favorite entry in this series (so far.) A few plot points that have been bothering me since the second book were resolved and the mystery was and wasn't what I expected. I am really looking forward to starting the fourth book in the series.The relationship between Russ and Tricia made no sense and seemed to come out of nowhere. The man went from being an obnoxious reporter who all but blamed the murder in the first book on Tricia and started the whole "village jinx" label to her "boyfriend" with no plot development or chemistry between the characters. Tricia appears as though she doesn't even like the man, not even reading his weekly paper and dismissing his interests. It was all very clumsy.

Tricia's college roommate Pammy comes to visit Stoneham, N.H.After freelancing and getting on Tricia's nerves, Tricia kicks Pammy out.Pammy is found dead in a trash bin and Tricia needs to get answers to what happened.Why was Pammy killed?! Why did they leave her body in the trash bin?As Tricia investigates it leads her to some groups such as freegans and dumpster divers.Adventure filled with interesting twists!A wonderful cozy with a twist I did not see coming.
