About the Author
Jules Clancy is a food scientist, photographer, writer and food and wine lover. She divides her time between Sydney and the Snowy Mountains in Australia. After graduating in food science at university, she worked in product development for Kellogg, travelled the world to make wine and, back home in Sydney, became a designer of chocolate biscuits and cookies. Discovering the world of food blogs, Jules became hooked, invested in a digital camera and started her own blog (www.thestonesoup.com). I have made several of Jules' recipes listed on her blog, and the free e cookbook she sent when I signed up for her blog, and have become a loyal fan of her work. Her new cookbook does not disappoint. As promised, she limits the ingredients to 5 or less, and offers many tips for keeping the recipes under 10 minutes. In addition, she continues to offer her signature variations for each recipe.The recipes include healthy ingredients without going over the top. They are simple enough to imagine how they will taste in my head, and her variations inspire me to think of fun ways to change things up a bit to make each one my own.I love to cook, and enjoy challenging myself with complicated recipes, but sometimes that is just not realistic. Jules' recipes are quick, easy and for the most part nutritious for those days and nights when I don't have the luxury of time, but don't want to sacrifice flavor, and still want to unwind with a bit of cooking.The book also contain beautiful pictures of each recipe, and Jules herself comes across as charming and fun.
I like to make and eat simple food at home, but I'm not great in the kitchen. The recipes from this book are simple and inspiring and very tasty. There are some very helpful notes on technique, suggestions on how to adapt or riff on each recipe, and beautiful photos. All of that really goes a long way in helping me improve in the kitchen in general.Note that most of the ingredients are listed by weight instead of volume (eg 100g of peas instead of x cups), which I LOVE! Small amounts are still given by teaspoon or tablespoon. Small kitchen scales are cheap and handy these days, I wish more recipes were written using weight.Also note that if you are vegan or veggie or have nut allergies, most recipes list alternatives for offending items.
The actual content of this book looks great, though I have yet to try a recipe. It is the only reason for why it gets three stars. If you bought the paperback, good for you. Because the Kindle edition is less than ideal to work with.There is no table of contents links to go back and forth in the book easily. (And no table of content in the front either, so you know what is where in the book) There is an index in the back, but this indicates page numbers that don't match the Electronic locations, nor are the recipes in the index in the back linking the titles of the dishes back to the recipe.You cannot change the font size to suit your own preferences.You can't search within the book.On an iPad app, you cannot rotate the iPad, because the book does not rotate at all.Really shoddy conversion to Kindle, which is a shame because the photographs and recipes are gorgeous. It really feels like it is the not-ocr-scanned version of the book that is put out here. Or how the book looked before it got page numbers and went to print.Ebooks should have, and other cookbooks have, progressed past this stage by now.
Nothing I would make in this book. No nutrition facts. Not what I hoped for.
My husband is learning to cook so he really liked the book too.

Great book and easy recipes! Only difference is the measurements are not what Im use to but easy to convert.
Very helpful...especially the extra ideas for modifyiing the ingredients.
